Hi, I’m Garrett Newman. I am 23 years old and from Fairfield, CT. I am on the autistic spectrum and I write and perform music on my views of the world.

I started taking private drum lessons when I was in elementary school. In 4th grade, I was in the school orchestra, playing the upright bass. When I was 14 years old, I started taking classes and performing at School of Rock. Over the years, I was part of 14 School of Rock performances.

When I was 18 years old, I auditioned and was accepted into The Paul Green Rock Academy with other talented musicians from the Northeast of the United States. With Paul Green, I did over 50 performances including backing up for Jon Anderson of Yes on tour. I play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and some vocals.

Besides music, I have been involved in musical theater. I started out with Actionplay, which is a theater company in New York City for young adults with autism. This group writes and performs its own musicals. Through Actionplay, I was part of 2 “Night of Too Many Stars” performances where I performed with Weird Al Yankovic and Cynthia Erivo. Those performances were broadcast on Comedy Central and HBO. They took place at the Beacon Theater and Madison Square Garden.

In High School, I was a cast member in 4 musicals. The musicals I participated in were: A Little Night Music, Oklahoma, Into The Woods, and City of Angels.

I have completed a certificate program in Audio Production at Middlesex Community College. My certificate is in recording, mixing, arranging and creating original music.
